Vintage Swedish Herbarium - Lily of the Valley, circa 1970

$295.00

Gathered near Häglinge, a small village and historic parish in the southern Swedish province of Skåne, this Lily of the Valley was found in a bokskog, or beech forest. In spring, the beech woods of Skåne come alive beneath a fresh green canopy, with Lily of the Valley carpeting the woodland floor in fragrant clusters of white bells.

There is something especially lovely about the simplicity of Lily of the Valley, gathered in its natural setting and saved for later. One can imagine a walk beneath the tall beeches, stopping to gather a few stems while the forest was still cool and the season was just beginning. More than fifty years on, these little bells still recall the cool shade of a Swedish beech wood in spring, when the forest floor was in bloom and there was still plenty of summer ahead.
